What is a Pikum?
A Pikum is a competition between people in predicting outcomes of future events. Users receive points based on whether they're right (if it's a YES / NO outcome) or how close they are compared to other Players (if it's an outcome like score). Players can still win a Pikum even if their entries are not 100% accurate. You can think of a Pikum as a more flexible office sweepstakes or fantasy league type game.

What is a Pik?
A Pik is one prediction and represents a part of what makes up a Pikum. A Pikum may include as few or as many Piks as the creator desires.
There are several types of Piks. TEAM piks, EVENT piks and PLAYER Piks. An EVENT pik is a prediction on a specific event, a TEAM pik is a prediction for one of the teams playing in a specific EVENT, and a PLAYER Pik is a predication on a specific player playing in an event. Some examples of Piks are;
Football - Event Pik: Which team will win the match?
- Team Pik: How many points will be scored by a specific team during the match?
- Event Pik: What is the total number of points scored by both teams? How many tries will be scored during the match?
- Team Pik: How many field goals will be made by the team?

Once Event Results for all events in a Pikum have been received, the Pikum Preliminary Winner(s) are identified and all Pikum Players are notified according to their communication preferences (email, SMS). The communication contains a link to the view Pikum page where anyone can view the Event Results, all the Players’ Pikum Scores and Piks, the Preliminary Pikum Winner(s), and the Preliminary Payout Amount(s). What are the points in a Pikum?
Each Pikum is worth a total of 10,000 points. The points are distributed across the available Piks by the Host at the time the Pikum is created. This allows hosts to make winning predictions of some Piks more important to the final score than others. Some Piks may be worth more points than other Piks, but the total points for a Pikum will always total 10,000 points. Players earn points by accurately predicting the outcomes of the piks. The more accurate the predication is to the actual results, the more points a player gets.
Exactly how many points a player earns for each Pik is dependent on the accuracy of the players’ predictions compared with the other players playing the Pikum. For Piks where the Player must predict a number, partial points may be earned based on how close the Player’s prediction was to the eventual outcome. At the end of the Pikum, the points a Player earned for each pik are totalled and the Player’s score is calculated.
When a Pikum has been scored the following mail will be sent to you. All you have to do is click on the link to see how all of your friends fared on this Pikum.
In the Pikum titled “Big, Bad and Brilliant at the Back” you finished 1st of 5 entrants and won 1200.00. Your prize amount has been credited to your account.

What happens if a sporting event is cancelled?
Obviously, Sporting Events are subject to Cancellation or Delay due to a variety of reasons outside of Pikum!’s control. If a Cancellation or Delay of a Sporting Event occurs, the following rules shall apply:
If an event is cancelled outright, Pikum!’s response depends on whether a Pikum! was a Single-Event Pikum, or a Multi-Event Pikum. A Single-Event Pikum is a Pikum in which Piks relate to a single sporting event (for example, a football game). A Multi-Event Pikum is a Pikum in which piks relate to Multiple Sporting Events (for example, a football game and a Tennis game).
Players in a Single-Event Pikum in which the underlying event has been cancelled will i) be notified that the Pikum has been cancelled, and ii) will receive a full refund of their Entry Fees into their Pikum! Account.
Players in a Multi-Event Pikum in which all underlying events have been cancelled will be treated in the same way.
Players in a Multi-Event Pikum in which only one or multiple, but not all, underlying events have been cancelled will be i) notified that one or multiple events have been cancelled, and ii) your Piks relating to the cancelled event(s) will be credited with 100 points (in other words, these Piks will be treated as if every Player in the Pikum had picked the correct result).
|
|
What happens if a sporting event is delayed?
Event Delays will normally only impact a Pikum in so far as the Pikum’s start time is changed. Pikum! will not notify Players of the new start time if events are delayed, but changes to an event start times can affect the start or end time of a Pikum.
However, should an event be delayed for an unreasonably long period of more than 72 hours, Pikum!, at its sole discretion, may decide to treat an event as if it had been canceled. This decision is binding upon the Host and all Players in the Pikum. In that case, we will i) notify you of our decision to treat an event as canceled, and ii) apply the Event Cancellation policy set forth above.
In the event of any conflict between the content found under the "Help"
section and the Terms and Conditions, the Terms and Conditions shall prevail.
Event Interruption
In rare cases, sporting events get interrupted. For example, a Wimbledon tennis match due to rain – the match may have been interrupted, but it had at least started. In this case all Pikums will remain closed (not open for further entry) and all Piks will remain unchanged.
However, should an event be interrupted for an unreasonably long period of more than 72 hours, Pikum!, at its sole discretion, may decide to treat an event as if it had been cancelled. This decision is binding upon the Host and all Players in the Pikum. In that case, we will i) notify you of our decision to treat an event as cancelled, and ii) apply the Event Cancellation policy set forth above.
|
|
What happens if a Pikum is cancelled?
Once a Pikum has attracted one or more Players other than the Host, a Host can no longer cancel the Pikum. At this stage, a Pikum can only be cancelled by Pikum! at its sole and full discretion.
Cancellation of a Pikum by Pikum!
At any time, and at its sole and full discretion, for any reason whatsoever, Pikum! may decide to cancel a Pikum.
If Pikum! decides to cancel a Pikum, its sole obligation to the Host and Players is to notify them of the cancellation, and to refund them their Entry Fees in full into their accounts at Pikum!
Cancellation of a Player’s Participation in a Pikum
Once you have entered a Pikum and made your Piks, participation cannot be cancelled. While Pikum! allows you to make changes to your Piks according to our Changing Piks policy, Pikum! does not allow you to withdraw from a Pikum altogether.
If Pikum! finds at any time that you have used fraudulent means to deposit money or any other suspicious activity, Pikum! at its sole and full discretion may remove you out of a Pikum! All monies that have been placed by you, in the above circumstances, will be removed from all Pikums where you have made entry.

What happens when the team line up changes for a sport at the last minute?
Team line-ups are listings of event participants for a particular sporting event. Pikum! allows you to Host and play Pikums involving individual athletes/participants.
Team line-ups are subject to change, often at very short notice. Pikum! updates team line-ups in its product as and when these changes become available, but does not guarantee that a particular athlete/participant will actually take place in a sporting event.
Therefore, it is your responsibility to keep up to date with any changes to line ups and adjust your Piks accordingly.
For example, and for purposes of clarity, if you have elected to make a Pik of “2” on the “number of goals scored by Ronaldo” in a football game, and Ronaldo is pulled from the line-up prior to the event, your Pik will still be considered, and Ronaldo’s number of goals scored will be entered as zero.

What percentage of a Pikum is returned to players?
Pikum collects part of the pot as vigorish for facilitating the game and the transfer of money amongst players. The vigorish collected by Pikum is calculated as a step wise function based on the entry stake and the number of players in the Pikum according to the following table.
| Players |
| Entry Stake |
|
<= 25 |
26 - 100 |
101 - 250 |
251 - 500 |
501 - 1000 |
1000+ |
| <=5 |
15.0% |
17.5% |
20.0% |
22.5% |
25.0% |
30.0% |
| > 5 |
10.0% |
12.5% |
15.0% |
17.5% |
20.0% |
25.0% |
To calculate the percentage of a particular Pikum that is returned to players, simply add the vigorish from each step and subtract it from the pot size, then multiply by 100, then divide that amount by the pot size.
For example, if a Pikum has a £5 entry stake and 110 players, the percentage return to player would be:
((110 players * £5) – (25 players * £5 * .15 + 75 players * £5 * .175 + 10 players * £5 * .20)) * 100 / (110 players * £5) = 82.84%

How are winners determined?
Pikum is more fun because in every game, there is always a winner. When you enter a Pikum, you are asked to predict what you think is going to happen across a number of events – we call these piks. When the host setup the Pikum, each of those pik was given a certain number of points (out of 10,000). If you're exactly right, you'll get all of those points. If you're not right, but close, then you'll get some of the points. At the end of the Pikum, the person (or people) with the most points win. Here's how it happens. - The host creates a Pikum and chooses how many points can be won for accurately predicting each Pik. The total number of points in a Pikum is always 10,000. This is a way for the host to have one pik be more valuable than another.
- Each player makes a prediction for each Pik in the pikum. Each prediction is either a yes/no prediction like "Will the Red team win?", or "Will player Jon Smith score?", or a numeric guess prediction like "How many corner kicks will the Red team have" or "what minute will the first goal be in".
- The events take place and Pikum receives the results through our data provider, PA Sports (link to PA sports). We use this data to score the Pikum.

Peerscore - You receive points based on how close you are to the result on a sliding scale determined by how much better your prediction was than other players.
If you're good at picking things other people aren't, you get extra benefit! |
- If a pik was a yes or no, you receive all the points if you got it right and none of the points if you're wrong. If it's numeric pik, you receive points based on how close you are compared to the result, and compared to how well other people pik. This means that if you are close to a numeric result and everyone else was way off, you get an extra benefit! We call this way of scoring, PeerScore.
- We sum up your score for each pik – this is your score for the Pikum. We rank entrants by how many points they've earned, and the entry with the largest number of points is the winner.

How do draws work?
If a certain number of players tie for a place that is awarded a prize, the prize for that placing will all be summed together and distributed evenly among the players. For example, if three players tied for 3rd place, the results will look like:
| 1st |
User A |
| 2nd |
User B |
| 3rd |
User C |
| 3rd |
User D |
| 3rd |
User E |
| 4th |
User F |
| 5th |
User G |
| 6th |
User H |
The three players that tied for third will split the prizes (if any) for 3rd, 4th, & 5th evenly amongst themselves.
|
|
What is PeerScore?
PeerScore is the scoring method we created and that we use to assign points for Piks with numeric guesses. Two examples of Piks with numeric guess are total number of goals scored and the minute of the first goal.
These types of Piks are scored based on how close a player got to the correct answer (their distance) as well as how close they got relative to other players in that particular Pikum. We call it PeerScore because your score depends on how well you did relative to your peers in this particular Pikum as part of the calculation.
PeerScore is calculated by finding the median distance of all players in the Pikum for that Pik. Then a scoring bound of 2.5 times the median is created from the actual result. All players outside the scoring bound receive no points. All players inside the scoring bound receive points linearly based upon where they fall within the scoring bound. If a player answers the Pik exactly correct, they will receive the full amount of available points. If a player’s Pik is in the middle of the scoring bound, they will receive 50% of the available points. If the player’s Pik is at the end of the scoring bound or below, they will receive 0% of the available points.
